That fat girl you're making fun of in PE, might be the next top model. That nerd you never sit with will probably be your boss one day. That pretty girl you have a crush on will probably give you aids in the next few years. That quiet guy that you see walk the halls might be the next superstar. And that black kid, no he's not going to be a rapper or athlete, he might be your president.
but I think that it’s important that we at least care. I live in the United States, and these events have made me feel both blessed to be living where I am today and terrified for the Libyans (and the other countries in the Middle East concurrently undergoing war). The people on Tumblr that tell others to “stop caring, you’re not even Libyan” really disappoint me. We live on the same Earth, we are all human beings. These are our brothers and sisters, and we have the resources and the money to help them, so why don’t we? If something like this happened in the United States, wouldn’t we want the world to help us? I can’t imagine what the Libyans must feel like right now, but I sure as hell hope that they know they’re not alone in this fight. We, including me, need to change our indifferent attitudes, get off our high horse, and show the world that we care.
followers, again, here’s just why i think everyone should care. please take the time to read this.
“On Tuesday, American nuclear physicists announced that they were working on research regarding atom splitting, to recreate and prove the Big Bang Theory. I have a suggestion: how about you don’t. How about you guys start a little smaller, with something not so possibly earth-destroying? Like, why smoke detectors with low batteries only go off at four o’clock in the fucking morning.”—Bill Maher (via thejeanicole)
